I was thinking the same thing, could it be lighting/camera differences or is there that much difference in weavers? Not that either one looks bad mind you!

    You are soooo hooked now.

Sad news is you'll probably never find a more beautiful tartan, but its fun to keep looking and buying anyway.

    Here's mine

Kathy Lare of Kathy's kilts sewed it up. Those are them Lewis kilt hose from the Scottish Tartan Museum...who'd have thunk it, PURPLE hose do go well with the Isle of Skye tartan. Get you some and try it.

Wow, two with purple hose...never thought I would fancy those. Might have to order a pair....Was wondering what I could get away with besides the "oatmeal" standard (or my black socks scrunched down more likely). Thought about the lovat green, but need to compare in person.

I can attest to the fact that all the Isle of Sky kilts pictured here in this thread are 16 oz Lochcarron cloth. It's the same exact tartan, just pleated differently.

The one I made is a 5 yard kilt, pleated to the white (really a light grey) line, so that it shows more green. Turpin's is an 8 yard kilt (and so has more pleats), pleated to the brown. McMurdo's and Ron's are also 8 yard kilts pleated to the sett.

    Turpin:
The most striking example of this is found on Matt Newsom'e site, with the Buchanan Modern pleated to three different stripes. Since Matt's site doesn't allow linking to pix, I've posted the URL. scroll just over halfway down the page.
Here are the specific images Turpin is referring to. These are all 4 yard box pleated kilts made from 16 oz Buchanan modern tartan woven by Lochcarron. Only difference is what stripe they are pleated to.
