Socks' general rule (okay, my rule): skinny calves get white socks, or light, to beef them up to match the upper body bulk kilted; big calves, whatever the polite word is, black or dark sock to thin them down relative to the kilted upper body bulk.
If light coloured socks, try and match the shirt to the sock. That's not an appropriate rule for dark socks and more formal occasions so have the tie match the socks. Flashes match some flower or brooch (Bradley earpiece) to tie it all together.
You sound well prepared. Frankly, I can't envision owning that many kilts but, hey, more power to you. I'm looking at a R-Kilt leather, a R-Kilt hemp, B&S McGregor (film) and that's it to bring my total to four (I'm not counting my original McGregor, now too small, or my Sportkilt, house and backyard kilt).
Have fun, take pics, gloat.

There are nothing wrong with cream coloured hose for the clasic look with the Prince Charlie. What is wrong with the rental look, some of the outfits look great.

I agree. If you want coloured hose with a PC that's fine, but the cream hose work as well. If you want to call it the "rental look" OK, but the same could be said for most men in tuxes as well they have the rental look even if they own the tux. What sets it apart is the quality of the garment and the way it fits. The same could be said for a good kilt and jacket.

A think whit David means by the rental look is that like tux hire is probably big business in America, kilt hire is really big business here and when ye hire a kilt it comes wi the standard colour o' hose which is cream."rental look"

Actually I was agreeing with David. I don't see problem with the look either and I wonder why some are so concerned about it. The quality of the garments and their fit will set you apart as much as different coloured hose will. When it comes to hose, what I really find to be the rental look is the thin cheap looking hose you get from many places.
For rental comparison, if a gentleman buys a tux it will look pretty much like one he could rent, but it will likely fit better and be of better quality. However, he isn't likely to wear white socks with it just so it doesn't look like a rental. Odd idea but there really isn't a tux equivalent to kilt hose.
Also the "rental look" has its place. I do a number of Scottish weddings and for formal ones I advise the bride and groom that the groomsman, and others who will be in pictures, should were their family kilts (if they have them or can rent them). However, they should choose one style of jacket (usually PC since most have it or can rent it) and cream hose. This allows the men some individuality while maintaining a consistent look that most brides (and their mothers) prefer.

I don't have a lot of choice when it comes to hose, but I wear my off-white/cream hose for semi-formal or day wear, and my darker (black, dk. green, navy) hose for more formal affairs or night wear.
Your choice and number of kilts to be worn on your cruise, sounds quite good. Is there such a thing as a swimkilt? lol

I agree that the off white hose can look fine with an outfit. I think what gets most people is that because the rental shops seem to only stock that color (for economic reasons), it tends to be pushed as the only option. We at XMarks, of course, know that is simply not true, and other colors can also look fine.
