The difference is in how it is pleated and the number of pleats. One is an 8-yard kilt pleated to the wide brown stripe which effectively leaves no vertical stripe in the pleat. It works well for this tartan, but not for all tartans. The Newsome is pleated to the white stripe and, being a 5-yard kilt, the pleats are a bit wider. The thing I love about the variety of pleating is that you can have a 3 or more kilts in the same tartan pleated to the sett, or different stripes, and get a completely different look. The most striking example of this is found on Matt Newsom'e site, with the Buchanan Modern pleated to three different stripes.
