    Cool Leatherneck Tartan

Let me start by saying that I really like the Leatherneck Tartan. But as I have never been in Marines I would not think of wearing their colors. Am I right in this thought or is it more like wearing the tartan of a clan that I have no connections with?
If I thought it would not offend Marine Corp members I would order one today.

This question has been posted before, I had the same question regarding Black Watch. The answer is the same; go ahead and wear it. Wear it with pride, wear it with honour. Honour of those who have served. Perhaps it's fate that you ask now, for if you click here you can own a genuine Matt Newsome 4 yard box pleat Leatherneck and an excellent price. Others will post to tell you to go ahead and wear it, they will be better able to give you the history and why you can wear it, but in the meantime be sure to not let that boxpleat slip away .

I'd get it pleated to the sett, instead of the stripe, but absolutely, if you want to honor the Marine Corps, wear their tartan. Same for any branch of the service.

I am a retired Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant, having served 33 years in our Corps.

Buy it, wear it! If anybody gives you any grief, send them to me!

Yes, it is a beautiful tartan, ain't it?

I now have four kilts in that great tartan, from tank down to SWK Thrifty.

If anybody asks why you are wearing it, you can always say to honor the United States Marine Corps! Wear it with pride!

That's what I love about this community. I have NEVER heard anyone say that "YOU can't wear that tartan because it's MY tartan". On the contrary, what you hear is "if you like my tartan than by all means wear it and good on you". I feel that way about the Montgomery tartans. I think that the only purpose that tartan preferences serve is to cut down the mind numbing number of possibilities.

I agree with everything that you just said, except the last sentence.

Just how, please tell me, does the number of tartan available cut down on the mind numbing number of possibilities?

Everytime that I can afford a new kilt, my mind does go numb with the number of possibilities ! ! !

So many tartans, so little money, so many choices!!!

I think he was saying that people's preferences -- whether generated by desire to stick to tartans they have some "connexion" with, or for certain colors or whatever -- serve to narrow down the possiblities.
