Thanks for sharing the pics, Ron. I made my first visit to the Southwest two years ago, and lucked out on arriving in Santa Fe the weekend of the huge Indian Arts Fair. While there, I got talked into buying a necklace which I was assured was a man's piece of jewelry.

Now that I've seen it on the groom, I feel soooo relieved.

Many of the Navajo men, including the medicine man, wore a similar type of necklace.

Myself, I've hesitated to wear a man's necklace with a kilt....but I'm working on risking it. Almost did for the wedding, but the tie (gag!) looked better with the jacket.

Hi Ron

What a wonderful experience! We had just the opposite experience at our daughter's wedding last June. Our daughter has a long-time friend who's Navajo, and we went to her kinaalda quite a few years ago out in Arizona. At the time, our daughter was ceremonially adopted into one of the clans and given a Navajo name (Asdzaan Beesh tichii'ii, or Copper Lady, for her red hair). In June, our daughter's friend came all the way east to be one of the bridesmaids, and her grandparents and boyfriend's parents worked out an abbreviated Navajo wedding blessing ceremony that she and her boyfriend could perform for our daughter and her husband. It was wonderful - there's a large circular enclosed garden at the place we had the wedding, and the Navajo ceremony was there after the regular wedding ceremony. I've pasted a couple of pictures below.
