Sorry, I missed seeing any kilts in the pictures!
Where are they? Darn, Pretty girls always get in the way of good kilt Photos!
Great first attempt...
you will be hooked in no time and will not believe how much stuff you will feel the need to accessorise with
so just bask in the simplicity you are kilting at now.

Lookin' good, my man. Guess ya could add some insulation (weight) for the winter, and the kilt would fit properly. ;-) Or, just keep your eyes peeled for a used traditional in the 28" waist size. The other option is to save up and have one made. That said, it's possible that you just need to have the straps and buckles moved. I don't remember if the SWK has'em or not. If it does, go to your local seamstress and have him/her move the straps and buckles a couple inches. Then it'll fit perfectly.

I really would have liked to have seen the pictures but here at work I can't and my computer at home is down so darn the luck. But from what I have read you must have done a great job..
As for a 28 in waist I haven't had a waist that small since I was 12...

Great look! You pulled it off really well. I like that belt buckle too.

I think you are wearing your kilt about 1 -2 inches too low. Pull it up a bit, it feels strange at first, but you will rapidly get used to it. Generally the edge of the kilt should come to lower than mid knee.
Cheers

I think it's probably close enough. The camera angle is quite steep and that would perspective would add to the length.
(I'm pretty sure you meant no lower than mid knee.)
I'd say you did a very good job for a first outing. Looked like a fun wedding.

With a 28" waist, I say we don't cut him anything except more cake and cream.
The nice thing about a bit too big now is that when you get to my age, you're not looking at a couple of hundred dollars to resize the kilt you were married in. (I know it wasn't your wedding, and yours isn't a "traditional" kilt, just something to consider if you "upgrade" kilts.)

The sporran isn't always required, and you showed just why it isn't.
Looks good!
