			Gizmo Challenge

Was gonna tag this onto the Gizmo thread on the general forum but it just seemed to accessory oriented so I'm puttin' it here. Redirect me if I'm wrong mods.
When at the Traditional Navajo wedding last weekend (see pic forum) it rained a lot. Now I'm in a wool kilt jacket (later rain jacket) and wool kilt (13 oz hand sewn), with wool cap. And the rain is running off the wool cap... so I figure hey, let it rain.

And I was warm and comfie the whole time. The kilt didn't get soaked through since when I was standing out in the rain (not a lot of room in a Navajo hogaan) the water seemed to run off quickly, good ol' gravity.

But, after the ceremony I sat for about an hour and a half on the pleats, then the drive home after was another hour plus.

When I got home I found the pleats were creased, a lot! So I hung the kilt to dry naturally and figured the pleats would hang out. 24 hours later the kilt is dry but the pleats have been "butt-pressed" in well.

So, I fired up my Black and Decker Gizmo steamer and went after them.

They steamed right out. No problem. Had to do the underpleat part of each too so it took a little time...maybe five or six minutes. That little duck bill thing did great to put the crease back in the lower pleats where they'd rounded out.

But while I'm doing that I'm thinking how grateful I am that this little Gizmo works so well. I couldn't imagine trying to wrestle that kilt around an ironing board or even following Ham's advice and laying it out on the floor to iron...couldn't even imagine risking taking an iron to the kilt.

So point is, go give your kilt the worst you can in the way of pleat creases and the Gizmo will fix it fast.

 Ron

I had that happen a couple of years back. I was more concerned with the smell but the drive back did really wrinkle the kilt. Anyway, I didn't do anything except hang it up on the shower curtain rod. The wrinkles were there still when it dried but after wearing it for a while again, the wrinkles were gone.
Maybe it was the Ontario humidity, anyway I didn't have to fuss with it.

You've provided a good solution if it doesn't clear up or you need it as soon as it's dry.

OK, Ron - Tell us the truth, you just bought one hundred shares of Gizmo stock, and you are trying to get rich by getting us all to buy one.......right?
Seriously, they aren't stocked in the local hardware stores here-abouts, so I ordered one - just on your say-so!

 Thanks!

Nope, no stock. I kissed off corporate America in 1992 and ain't been back.
Understand they're hard to find. When I got mine I was just wandering the local big box store and saw the duck bill thingie...that's what sold me, though I use it seldom, its a handy feature.

Haven't seen them back in the store since I bought mine.

It seems that they have moved from the big box stores to the discount stores. I got mine a week or so ago at an Ollie's Store. Ollie's sells overstock and close out items. They had at least 15-20 on the shelf going for about $20.

Ok, I went online to order a gizmo and found one to purchase one. The sight had reviews and all of the reviews were horrible. Every one said to not get it because it leaked, didn't heat up enough to make steam, etc.
How many have this gizmo and how do they work for you?

Or does Ron have the only one that works?

I not only have never had a problem with mine, last week I forgot I had it plugged in for about thirty hours...it didn't catch fire and it worked fine when I needed to use it after.
Like any manufactured product though a few defective ones are bound to slip through and cause some unlucky buyers to have a bad experience.
