Washing your hose

Is there a way to wash wool hose that won't shrink them? I have a fairly new pair of oatmeal colored hose and somehow I got a few stains on the legs (the last time I wore them it had just rained and I think some dirty water got on them). Any advice is appreciated.

Get some hand wash landry soap and do them in the sink by hand. Hang them to dry and they won't shrink.

I used to throw them in the washer and hang dry, but I find that the handwashing is even quicker and I know the hose won't get tossed in the dryer by accident

I gonna have to go with just washing them in cool water in the sink with Woolite or some other gentle soap, rinsing thoroughly...and NOT wringing them out but rolling them up in a towel and pressing on the roll so that the towel absorbs most of the water. Then either hang them out to dry or look for one of those screens that you can support over the bathtub and that are made to lay washed sweaters out on and lay them out flat and let 'em dry. If your stains are simply dirt, it should wash out easily...

I wash mine in a front loading washer (cold) and hang them on the towel warmer. Never had a problem yet.

Tell you what Bryan,

I tried the gentle cycle of the washer and the result was always the same - shrunk hose. Painful at the price.

Finally started hand washing in Woolite in the sink. Tedious, particularly since I work long hours and like to change hose at lunch. But worth it. No shrinkage from hand washing in cold water and Woolite.

McMurdo gave you a pretty good thread - I would have this to add.

BEFORE you start the washing process, lay out the hose on something flat and take some measurements! Write these down.

Then in the drying process, gently shape and stretch them to fit the measurements that you made. Even a little bigger.

Then let them dry.... ..... everything should come out fine!

Handwash your good ones with Woolite, stick the rest in the machine on wool wash & change them every other year (depending on how often you wear them)

I also wash them in cold in a front-loading washer on the gentle cylce along with other items that require similar care, but I just hang them by the heels on clip hangers to dry.
