Some games are not available for mac.
The rest you don't need to replace because they all come with the mac. The only exception I can think of is excel. So wait until it's bundled or buy student versions.
Then you learn about the other kind of MUG, mac user groups, and what an interesting bunch they are.
I think somebody else said it already, but if you knew your options you would be more than happy to use Mac software. Every day at work.... (what is the point of all the windows security features when they are so easy to hack).

For spreadsheet junkies there is the free Neo office which I used up to the release of iWork 08...

David beat me too it. iWork 08 now has a spreadsheet program that is highly rated by ComputerWorld. I've not seen it yet as I still use AppleWorks.

Appleworks is slated to be replaced by iWorks with the next system upgrade. Traditionally, Appleworks was included with every new computer and the upgrades were always free...let's see how it goes with this next round.
I have been using the original version of iWorks which included Pages and Keynote. Pages is a sort of word processing/page layout program that's been excellent and Keynote is the Apple version of Powerpoint. We were most interested in Keynote and I'm happy to say that not only has it been a joy to work with but all files are completely interchangeable between Powerpoint and Keynote.
I have to admit that I've never used a Windows machine to do any layout but it was interesting to me that my musician buddy, John, asked me to do the layouts for his last CD's artwork on the Mac because he said that he didn't like the way that fonts looked when they were done on the PC. I guess I always thought that fonts was fonts and that, in the finished product, there was no difference. I managed to do the entire project in Photoshop Elements (type and all!) and it went through the printer's without a hitch and looks mah-velous. Guess I can hold off on buying Adobe Creative Suite and spend the money on kilts!

My first computer was a Mac and I hated when I got rid of it. Couldn't stand the problems with the PC's. When my son needed a computer, and since I couldn't let him use my business computer, I bought a Mac Mini for him. After doing that it was only a few months before I had a Mac laptop for me.
I use a couple of programs that don't have a Mac equivalent and now I run them using VMware. Amazingly XP runs better with VMware on my Mac than it did on my Dell.

I work on/with both PCs and Macs everyday (for the past 2 years). From a reliability standpoint I really don't see any difference at all. I've gotten the Mac spinning beach ball of death more times than PC blue screen of death on either of my work or home PC -- make that both combined -- and they're all about the same age.
There are definitely things to like about both, but when I want to be productive, I still go back to my PC.

I'm stuck with a Mac at work. I'd never allow one in my home.
You've got what you've got, though, so good luck with it!

Aha! I thought that might bring mac users out
I'm still working my way through it.
So far, email won't work, nor will it print over a network. I'm having trouble getting Outlook over to Entourage. When I do that I'll need to synch with a Treo.
as you see, my needs are complex.
I think they are great computers and I am determined to make it work, then maybe buy a notebook.
It is all a lot to learn, but it's fun

Here's a couple of quick hints.
ehmac.ca is probably the best source for tech info. Probably the main reason I've never needed tech support.
Instead of Mac Help, under the help menu, which has its own limitations, use Sherlock and go to Applecare. That is direct to Apple's database and usually the better source for info. The layout is strange, single click and the link shows up at the bottom. Double click and it goes to a webpage and you loose track of where you are. So, single-click.
Mail is a good application and it will print over a network. I use both. Not that I'm more blessed than you, I just want you to know that, at the end, it works. If I can help, let me know.
You may be set up to work on the network. Hold your cursor down over the printer choice, a note will come up indicating its location. If it looks like web numbers, that's the one. If not, it might be one of the choices. If not that, you're right, it's not set up right.
