My first and last order

With the exception of one problem parcel jointly handled by USPS and FedEx (it was USPS's fault then), I've never had a problem with the actual delivery by FedEx -- they have always provided excellent service to me.

I continually have problems, however, with FedEx Trade Networks -- the FedEx customs broker. Their admin fees are outrageously high (about $35 all in last time), and they apply taxes and duties on marginal cases that Canada Post would ignore, and many cases they apply duties/taxes when its completely unjustified.

I've had no problems with Royal Mail, thanks to the warnings on this board.

I too have placed my first and last order with Kiltstore because of their own exhorbinate shipping charges. Maybe I'm missing something, but charging $23 to ship $66 worth of kilt pins by Royal Mail seems very high.

They worked some mystical magic and talked me into buying a Jacobite shirt to lower the charges.

I just make them out to be another one of those Internet vendors bent on making their profits off their shipping and handling charges.

One more reason to shop at the Highland Games.

Thanks for the clarification; this is precisely who I've been talking about in this thread. FTN is just another ugly head on the FedEx hydra...buyer beware.

With respect to your own issues, Ron, I made no complaint about Kiltstore.net's shipping charges (this wasn't my point at all) and I disagree with your assessment of Scotweb's business ethos. It's a long way from the UK to AZ, is it not? Obviously, the further away you are the more costly shipping is going to be. And considering the distance involved here, the fact that you're importing goods into the US and in comparison to what you'd pay buying the same items stateside, I don't think your experience is truly all that bad. I've paid more for less than what you base your assessment on, so please don't turn this thread into a slam against Kiltstore.net---not only was that not my intention, it's completely unfair and has nothing to do with the complaint about my order.

Take four pewter kilt pins, put them on a postage meter with a small padded envelope and see what the slow freight postage comes out. A lot less than $23 whether figured in dollars or pounds.

Ya know....I can't think of anything that wouldn't exacerbate this non controversial situation. Just two adults with different opinions/realities. Since I'm on his ignore list now can speak to the board.

We're all intelligent aware adults and can make our own decisions on methods of shipping and how much we're willing to bear for shipping costs.

Thanks to this most wonderful board at least we have the opportunity to make informed decisions and be forewarned.

When ordering from the UK I have always asked for Royal Mail and had no problems with the shipping. The reason I have done this is because of situations like this that have been posted time and time again on Xmark.

I've had the same good experience with the Royal Mail. The Royal Mail is every bit as efficient as the US mail, maybe better. Kilts, fabric, etc has all come in a timely manner and in good condition.

I'll second that. I do a lot of overseas "shopping" and have only good things to say about Royal Mail---shipping costs are reasonable and any goods I purchase arrive in a timely fashion.

Anyway, I know he's responded to threads like this one in the past but it would be nice to have Nick's input. Are you there, Nick?
