Just a dumb Marine asking this question, but why is it necessary to have laces, buckle and strap AND a zipper?

These are jump boots - anyone who willingly jumps out of a perfectly good airplane needs all the help they can get.

But Marines jump in our regular boots. They offer all the needed support because they are of a good quality to start with! Besides which, if you pull the risers at the proper time, a good landing is like stepping off a two foot platform. Mind, it does take some practice....

The Marines I talked to in the I Corp area said that they were taught to jump out head first. They were to replace the divot before leaving the drop zone, if they had time, or to use it as a fox hole if the situation required it.

Even though I was Army there was something reassuring about working in I Corp and knowing it was the Marine area of operation.

Yeah, but then that makes for a bad PLF, especially when you HAVE to like in pre-jump training.

Rigger here...and I hate those army jump boots. Regular issued were just fine; and now I find I wish I would have kept mine.
