As side from Blunstone, I also wear New Rock Boots as well. If you are into Motorcycle, check out the Harley Davidson riding boots as well.

When did they start giving Marines parachutes?

    Who said anything about parachutes?

We just jump out of the plane and flap our arms, really fast, and float us gently down to the ground!

The Marines I talked to in the I Corp area said that they were taught to jump out head first. They were to replace the divot before leaving the drop zone, if they had time, or to use it as a fox hole if the situation required it.

Even though I was Army there was something reassuring about working in I Corp and knowing it was the Marine area of operation.

    Rex.

Not a good day to day choice i'm afraid, The "ammo boot" has its sole built up to reduce the flexibility in the boot reducing the damage done to the polish, or Bull as its called in the trade. The segs are also lethal on many surfaces, great for what they are designed to do not something that would jump out to me.

    However

similar but slightly different is the DMS boot (DMS for "dems ma shoes")

Very similar upper but with a rubber sole, these boots were issue Britsh boot up to the mid 80's so getting your hands on a new set is difficult and I would never recommend wearing S/H boots

    That sounds about right.

I've never seen any problem with the ammo boots if unused or good reproductions. It was my understanding that the soldiers themselves had them double or treble soled to stiffen them and protect the bulling on their parade boots. Granted even the unused ones take a bit of breaking in but they should be fine.

I did make the mistake of buying a pair of parade boots from a surplus store in Glasgow years ago (thinking they had just been the pair someone kept in good shape for show) and I could barely walk in them. I ended up having the resoled to be wearable.

    .
Aye but remember what they are designed for........Parades. I have a pair of double soled brogues. I've had them for 10 plus years, they still kill my feet and I'm not from the soft shoed generation.

Perhaps I'm not sure what the problem you are refering to is, the object of multi soling is to make the boots less flexible and for most people that means less comfortable. There are plenty of better options for boots if your looking for something for day to day wear. Anyway I see no option in getting double soled boots unless you are going to bull them. Anyone doing this for any reason other then they have to needs to have a look at themselves

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. My point was that Ammo boots that hadn't been double or treble soled broke in fine and were no problem for daily wear. I have had three pairs that I used that were quite comfortable. Also the reproductions are not as stiff as the originals.

with you now, a fair point, ditching the segs make them more practical too
