    New-kilt in AK

    Greetings from the 60th parallel!

I own and drive taxicabs and keep my honeybees in the beautiful city of Seward, Alaska. After several years of routinely adjusting my trousers to keep them from binding my "man package" in my taxi, I broke down and ordered some kilts. I am now a proud owner of three Utilikilts (Original, Mocker, Workman's). I wear them daily, except when I expect to be doing lots of rolling around on the ground in a grease puddle under my taxis. Okay, so I don't wear them when working with the bees, either; for obvious reasons. ;) I must say that never having to adjust your pants in the car is a beautiful thing, though the pleats get rumpled pretty quickly when you're sitting on them for twelve hours at a whack.

I've been more or less exclusively kilted for about three weeks, now, and must say that the two most frequent comments/questions I receive are, a) compliments! and b) "Are you Scottish?" (often Irish). My usual response to the latter is "Yeah, about twelve generations ago, but does it matter?" Even the Scottish nationals I had in the cab a few days ago agreed that it does NOT matter if a person is Scottish. I love it.

The plan is to acquire more kilts in a variety of tartans and materials. I will review each of them on my blog space (see link in signature) after some weeks of use. Most, if not all, of the vendors on the site should expect orders from me in the coming months.

I'm still looking for good, LONG, winter-weight socks. Suggestions appreciated.

Me at Canyon Creek in my Utilikilts Original.

I know of some who have found army surplus wool leggings on the net, that they use for winter kilting. (From the Swedish army, iirc). You might try looking for something along those lines.

Best regards from one kilted animal to another,
