Have you ever heard of forum etiquette? If not here is a little lesson. It is impolite to berate someone for spelling or grammatic errors, if you have a problem with how it was written up, give the original poster a P.M. also this thread is two years old, and nobody else seems to have a problem with it, perhaps you could check the date of the original post before bringing something like his to what has generally been an enjoyable thread.

By the way, here is the date of Seamus' last post 10-21-2005, 01:43 PM I put it to you sir that Seamus may not even be here to see this.

Actually I think he has heard of punctuation marks and he uses them rather well. He even punctuated quotations! How many of us bother to that in posts? As for the upper case letters, since his punctuation is fine, I am sure he knows how to use them. Remember this is a kid who lives in a texting culture, for informal communication.

My question is why you decided to blast a kid on on such an old thread. Besides everyone else thought it was fun. You had to be doing a search, since you were the first poster in over a year. Even if you did feel a need to mention it you couldn't think of a more polite way to say it?

Oh and if you are going to blast someone for capitalisation and punctuation, try to at least check your spelling.

I've encourage James (my son) to check in occasionally, but he's slammed as a sophomore at Northwestern University. He is producing the Autumn musical there and carrying a very full load of classes. He graduated 16th in a class of approximately 800 from Evanston High School with a 4.0 GPA. He has acted professionally, was the male lead in the senior musical, has done Shakespeare multiple times (including Macbeth), and is fluent in German.

I think he knows about capital letters. Take a pill, dude!

and thanks to those who rose to the occasion. I love that boy and am monumentally proud of him.

You know.....some people need to chill out, enjoy life, and stop looking for perfection in the most unlikely places. I tend to be a real stickler for details, but I didn't see anything wrong with that post - I just thoroughly enjoyed it and thought that reading it was a great way to start my day.

That guy who thought it was so full of errors.....I would hate to see how he would react if he saw one of my kilts when the pleats have wrinkles!

All of us geezers need to chill out

As Seamus' uncle, and someone who is between forty and death (some days I think I'm closer to death than forty), I had the experience of IMing with my nieces and nephews for a while which I thought was very cool (and I thought I was very cool)

Then the IMs stopped. I called my brother and asked him what was going on. He told me that they found it intimidating that I spelled everything correctly and used proper grammar in the instant messages.

I read Seamus' post before I ever joined Xmarks and found it quite amusing and well-constructed in a casual way. As one who has just ordered his first kilt, I hope I am able to behave with as much aplomb if something similar happens to me.

It's interesting that the kilt bug (or insanity) started with my nephew, whose father caught it, and finally, I have dipped my toe into the quicksand of the kilt world.

For those of us, not brought up with computers, who learned how to read the written word from books, it is difficult reading text that has no capital letters. This has been proven by several studies (no, I don’t have the references!)

So it may well be a generational thing. I also agree that the manner that one writes reflects on his attention to detail and general education. I, as a member of the “older” generation, find it very irritating when individuals fail to use proper punctuation and capital letters.

I do wonder why this thread surfaced after such a long time. Has this been smoldering since then?

Ha ha ha. You are right, the bad guys do travel in packs. Unlike kilties, they're not quite gutsy enough to stand alone.

You handled the girl with good humor, too. I don't know that I'd take it so nicely, but if it floats your boat ... : p
