Wow, that was well put. I listen to all types of music and enjoy/dislike each song based on it's own merits. Regardless of the style or type of music, I especially like singers who put their emotions into the words they sing and frequently I will find myself liking a song only because of the feeling the singer puts into it.

I like Billy Holiday too

Pavarotti is an excellent example because he sang with such great passion. I can't understand a word of Italian but when he is singing Vesti la giubba in Pagliacci, I can feel his pain. There are quite a few foreign songs that I like just for the emotion put into the lyrics even if I don't know what they are saying.

It is impressive that the songs he writes are as good as they are, given his age. I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops as a singer, as well as a songwriter. I think he could be a consistently great singer but only time will tell.

It's okay if everyone doesn't like him. I respect that others like singers that I don't like. It is all our differences that make the world an interesting place in which to live.
I'll have to try a few more Nutini songs because I do see that he sings well and with emotion. The only thing I didn't care for was the "Tiny Tim" warbling I heard in the 2-3 songs I checked.
