I am using a traditional saddle stitch (its a 2 needle technique). The leather is actually a bit thicker than it looks so im not really worried about the strap tearing through, but I will probably move it up and sew through another piece of leather as a backing. Thanks for the advice all. Hopefully it will be done by the time I get off work tonight!

Alright, after a full night of hand stitching and rivet and snap setting, the Berserk Sporran is done. Ok, so not really. It is good enough to hold me over at the games tho! No pics yet as my camera has quit on my but I might post later today after the game. There is still a bit of adjustment and finishing touches that needs to be done and I would like to find a button to add some considerable weight to the closure. Again, sorry about not having pics!

Looks great, especially for a first attempt. I've been throwing around the idea of making my own sporran, and after seeing the success that you had, I think I'm gonna give it a shot.

I would say very well done for your first sporran. (You should have seen Freelander Sporran's first prototype!

) It is simple and will go nicely with a brown day wear outfit.

I would suggest a slight alteration and not having the flap come to a sharp point. If it were mine I would slightly round it. To me that sharp angle stands out from as not blending in with the other soft curves of the sporran.

A decorative button would look nice but visually isn't essential.

Well done and enjoy the games make sure to bug...err shake Todd's hand at the Clan Cumming tent.

Good point about the flap shape, Panache. Not only does it not fit with the general shape of the sporran, but when you take into account where a sporran is worn, it may look a bit... um... shall we say, suggestive...

Thank you Panache and Crusty for the suggestion but I am going to disregard it as i cut it to look like a spade and really like it. It's unique and if its suggestive. . .well i would thank you to keep your mind out of the gutter.

I think it looks great. That is the great thing about DIY. You know what YOU want. Great first attempt! Think you might try more or are your fingers still a wee tender ;)

If you like it, by all means wear it. I was just offering my opinion... but it's your sporran. Enjoy it, and take pride in the fact that you made it with your own hands.

And I apologize for letting my mind wander into the gutter. My wife has been holding out on me lately.

Congrats on a fine looking sporran! I've been meaning to make one of my own as well, and have been putting it off (for some reason). I like the two sporran strap holders on the back. Looks like they'll balance the weight out pretty well. I'll try and keep an eye out for you at the games tomorrow so I can see it up close.
