There are days when this job...
...is amazing. This morning I updated the Stanford Desktop Tools installation on the Director, Emeritus's laptop, and also updated his Mac to 10.4.1. While I was sitting there, reading Nature (scientific magazine) waiting for the 400 mbyte downloads to finish, two gentlemen entered my bosses, bosses office....
My bosses boss, the Emeritus director is Paul Berg, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, 1980.
The two gentlemen that entered? One was Steve Jobs of Apple Computers fame, the other was George Schultz, the former Secretary of State.
Crikey.

Man, how cool. You gotta love a job where you get to meet people like that.

Och! You updated to 10.4 about two weeks until 10.5 is due to be released!
I got Adobe Lightroom and then found out that I needed to upgrade fro 10.3 to 10.4 just to be able to use it...it's that very refined search function that makes it so cool.
But talk about a "brush with greatness"! Yow!

Very cool!
Good thing you were updating an Apple & not a PC (though, that could be said anytime) , but especially when Steve Jobs is there.
Any comment about your kilt?
.
Happiness? I'd settle for being less annoyed!!!

Well, I'm IT support to three Nobel Laureates, which is kind of fun. I must say that Paul Berg is the nicest guy in the world. I talk to Paul all the time. I haven't said boo to the Jr. Kornberg, but Arthur Sr. ...well, I'm in his lab now and then, but I don't interact with him much. I have been assigned the task of selling him on our new backup system, seeing if we can con him into snapping up a terabyte of backup space.
This is the third time I've met Jobs. The Luminous Joan sometimes goes to dance workout class with his wife, actually. I've never met George Schultz, before. We all shot the breeze briefly and then I finished up, and they got to talking about the real reason they were there, this program they're doing that's supposed to raise millions of dollars for the University.
