Nice! Is that yours or your bandmates Epi Dot Archtop in the background? I've got one just like it.

Actually, I was merely present at a filming of my father's band whilst wearing my kilt.

I've always loved the Rick 4001 and got my pic taken while holding it. (notice no strap/ not plugged in)

The Rick is a 1978 in near mint condition, the Epiphone Archtop I believe is an early 60's model if I remember correctly.

Also present, but not pictured was an early 60's Hofner "violin" bass of Beatles fame, which is quite cool, but for me doesn't hold the allure of the Rickenbacker......

Getting back to the question at hand. An alternative (to moving your belt), which alot of my guitarist mates do, is tape up the back of the guitar where your buck rubs. Gaffa tape saves the world once more.

I hope you're not referring to black gaffers tape! I have seen that stuff take the finish off of hardwood stage floors!

Real Gaffers Tape from 3M (#6910) is ducktape (note I did not mean Duct Tape, the other stuff HVAC guys use) on steroids!

It is quite possible that it would either damage or remove the fragile finish from a guitar. I wouldn't do that on a dare!

I go with just spinning the stuff to the left. That's the way I have always done it, either kilts or p@nts.

My solution is similar to several others: swing the sporran to the side, AND tuck a small towel over the belt buckle (those of you who've seen my belt will understand that a thin polishing cloth just isn't enough!).

I like seeing all those expensive basses, but for gigging I use my old JP-90. Why mess up your best bass on stage? Save the best for recording.
