    formal wear question

I have seen many pics here of people wearing formal wear and have a few weddings to go to in the next couple of months so here is my question.
What is the rule for wearing a belt with a prince charlie. I read that you never wear a belt with a prince charlie would it be a big deal either way? I have a full fur sporan and it is pretty large I think sitting it will hit the bottom of the belt buckle.
I am thinking no belt thoughts...

From what I've gathered the general rule is, no belt with a waistcoat (vest), and you wear a belt when you aren't wearing a waistcoat.

With a Prince Charlie, and I mean to wear it properly, to me anyway it is worn with the waistcoat, therefore no belt as a belt will cause the bottom of the waistcoat to jut out. This is the way I wear mine with the waistcoat, always with the waistcoat, as this is the way it has been traditionally worn. With this type of clothing there are certain rules that must be followed to be proper, you would not for example wear sneakers or hiking boots with it so I would say follow the rules of good decorum when wearing the Prince Charlie.

The esteemed gentlemen above are correct. No belt with a waistcoat.

The pictures you see on some highland attire sites that show a man wearing a waistcoat and belt are just trying to sell you more stuff.

I'm guessing you perhaps use sporran hangars? An interesting innovation, but not for formal wear.
