Crown Antler, Pewter Bolster, Sgian Dubh
I had received 4 blades, 2 crowns (one was still meaty), and assorted flotsam from the recipient of my last creation. It is fall break for my Daughter so I've been taking it easy this week. There was no good movie for us to go see so we got a Wii flying game and I made another. Thanks to Joe for his thread that got me thinking. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=30994 I used different materials but a similar method.
I used a wire wheel to strip the jerky off of the antler. Sized and preparred the antler crown and grabbed a chunk of my MPK silver pewter.
Here's the components
With the blade secured in the antler I used a technique similar to Joe's except I used two wraps of duct tape and a piece of an aluminum Coke can.
While I was taping the form up, I had the MPK heating. A quick pour and....
Some preliminary shaping with a stationary belt/disc sander
Taped the blade for some close in work
Artificially aged antler (no chemicals just heat and a dirty buffing wheel), then I buffed everything shiny and stitched up a quick sheath.
This one will be in the mail soon! I hadn't planned on making it. It just happened.

Why doesn't something like that "just happen" around my house? The talent on this forum is intimidating.

Ebay, I usually find it in > Business & Industrial> Manufacturing & Metalworking> Search Results for 'alloy' there is none listed now. When I get low I start looking. My favorite is MPK lead free with silver. It shines up very nice.

I've never tried MPK
I'll have to find some and try it

I recommend MPK because it is lead free and the silver allows it to shine up nicely. It is also fairly resistant to bending. It requires a little more heat surfing to get a good pour than some softer ones I've tried.

Here is the link for the MPK. It just came back on today. I think I'll get some more too.

I submitted my post and there it was. I tried to edit the post to remove it but it wouldn't go away.
