What would you wear?
Hi all, let me start by saying that I think I know what I will be wearing for the memorial service for my Uncle next week, I just wanted to get opinions on something. Yesterday was the internment for my Uncle Murdy, I wore my Grey Braemar and waistcoat, with a white shirt, black tie (full Windsor knot) Isle of Skye 8 yard 16oz Lochcarron wool, black hose, solid bottle green flashes, and my dress sgian dubh.
Next week I will be picking up an 8 yard kilt, that is being rushed out for me, in the MacPherson Red tartan as this was his clan, I will be wearing it to the memorial service. I was planning on wearing it with the Grey Braemar, and waistcoat again, perhaps with a different tie, hose and flashes this time. Here is the question, someone suggested I wear my Prince Charlie to the memorial, what do you think? My mind is just about set against it as I would not don my tuxedo for this occasion, however I would like some input, should I go for the Braemar as planned or re-think the Prince Charlie?

I would stick with the grey Braemar jacket & waistcoat with very muted/somber coloured accessories. You might also see if the funeral home has any black armbands that you could wear to display your mourning.
I think the formal attire would be way to over the top for a memorial service, especially if it's during the day.

I'd go with the Braemar, with different shirt, tie flashes etc... Unless the memorial is a black tie affair in which case I would go the Prince Charlie.

Yes it is going to be during the day, so I will stick with the Charcoal Grey Braemar ans waistcoat, good to see there are others who agree, and I am not on the wrong page.

cajunscot is right on target as usual.
I'm sure you'll look your best in the outfit you've chosen--the same I would have chosen--and you have our sure condolences.

ESPECIALLY since it's charcoal. I definitely think it's fitting. My condolences as well.

I would stick with the charcoal grey Braemar as the Prince Charlie is in-appropriate for a memorial service. For what it is worth, I have never seen a PC at a memorial service and I have been to more than a few.

Glen,
Your charcoal Braemar will be most appropriate paired with your Uncle's clan tartan. Wearing the MacPherson Red tartan is a very fine way to show that some ties are never broken, and those we lose are never truly gone.
Again, my condolences.

Yes, I reckon the grey as well. I conduct funerals regularly, the only PC I've ever seen was on the Piper.
