Roan - Thanks for the compliment on the avatar. That symbol is called a valknut but is sometimes known as Odin's Heart. It's usually found carved along side Odin, most often in battle or death scenes. In that respect it's supposed to suggest passage from one world to the next. Norse mythology contends there were nine worlds; the valknut symbolized them with it's nine points.
