She and her family certainly have mine. And her doctors have my thanks. They sound fantastic.

Jims e-mail update, today...

Audrey Open Heart bypass Surgery update 10-25-2007:
I write to you as a humble, thankfull, releived and
exhuberant father.
Thank God for the blessing of Audrey surviving the most dangerous and difficult operation anyone can ever experience. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most
dangerous and difficult, Audrey's surgery was a 10+ according to her cardioligist, the #1 doctor in this field in the world.
The operation was a total success!
She was on the bypass machine for over 5 hours, in surgery for 12 hours.
The opthmalogist was able to obtain priviliges THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY and his evaluation indicates that the cyst in her eye needs to be removed and will be
when she has fully recovered from her heart surgery.
The details are as follows:
The 3 colatteral arteries leading to the lungs were combined and centralized (unifocalization). Prior to this procedure being developed by our cardioligist,
the mortality rate was approximately 100%. We have never been told this before. 50% of children with Audey's condition died by age 2, the remaining survivors died in the teenage years.
She had a valve sucessfully implanted from a human donor.
She had the hole in her septum successfully repaired with a synthetic / Gortex patch.
We are awaiting results of s specimin taken from a fluid build-up in her pericardium.
Our angel was returned to us with her chest closed, a true blessing as many babies have their sternums left open for quite some time after a surgery like this.
We were informaed that Audrey is, to their knowledge, the only known child in existance with anapthalmia (no eyeballs) concurrent with her heart conditions. That
makes her one-of-a-kind in the world ( didn't we already know that !! :-) )
Prognosis:
In total contrast to what we have been told by all our other doctors, and this is a true blessing, Audrey will live a true, complete life. We were previously told that she would never be able to run, play sports, etc. of course, her two athletic parents were quite
depressed about that!
Dr Hanley corrected this misinformation by assuring us that she will be able to do anything that we can, including tossing Cabers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her blindness seems like such a minor impediment now that she has survived this devastating surgery. The day after her operation she is living up to her
reputation as being a wild little tough scrapper. She is shaking off the anesthsia that is meant to keep her imobile for 3 days until her heart tissues begin to heal. Heather had to jump to the rescue as baby Audrey flailed about ripping at cords, doing her
hoppity-hooper dance, and rolling and thrashing about. Attendants were at a loss as to how to survive our wild banshee baby!
Heather and I are eternally, deeply, and sincerely thankfull to all of you who stopped by the hospital, called, emailed, posted your prayer support on websites, text-paged, and wrote.
Thank you for your prayers, gas cards, food money, and cards.
Our fears were greatly eased and we were mercifully distracted by visites from Dianna Dennis and Kris Lockley from Early Start. They stayed with us during
the 12 hour intermidable wait and brought us a huge gift basket full of wonderful food. Alan Hebert, expert Highland Games athlete took us to breakfast, treated us to coffee, and entertained us after the ladies left. Bob grandy from my wonderful Christain
Men's group drove all the way up here and stayed with us for hours until the doctor came out to deliver his prognosis.
Kelley Jordan sent Audrey's nurses 10 Round Table pizzas! Audrey's care is gaurenteed now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unknown to us, websites were constructed by Alan Hebert with Audrey on for prayer support requests and dedications rolled in by the dozens.
On behalf of Audrey, Thank you all, for everything.
With kind Regards,
baby Audrey, Jim & Heather Walker
