I think if you're wearing a PC with a white wingtip shirt, and a white fur sporran then white hose would be your best matching option. I think black, or blue, or green or whatever matches your kilt may work, but it seems to me under some circumstances that white or cream is your nicest option. I have lots of hose, but my formal sporran is white, and while wearing a white wingtip, white hose seem to go perfect.

Back when I had a pair of off-white (or cream), I tended to wear them with athletic shoes, like what Ron shows in his pics. They didn't seem to go as well with the darker colored shoes and boots that I own... Granted, I didn't own any ghillie brogues until recently. Now, they'd probably look better...

I like cream but I really like Black, especially witha kilt with some red in it, if you check out pipers socks they tend to be elabouratly knitted socks and quite different than normal kilt hose, when Im in Edinburgh I normally get a couple of pairs of "ex hire" cream socks from the bargain bucket outside Geoffreys at £2.00 a pair. at the end of the day use a mirror and take it from there.

<sigh> the bargain bin outside Geoffrey's? almost worth a trip to Edinburgh from the US.

Remember back in the early 60's when guys used to wear socks that matched their shirts? Usually cranberry or bottle green?

I was alive in the sixties and have seen some really unfortunate fashion statements then and since then. I was just watching reruns of Lost In Space with my sixteen year old daughter the other day and told her how we all started wearing the turtleneck (ususally a "dickie") and the v-neck acrylic sweater after we saw it on LIS...she was stunned. I also remember Bonanza shirts...eeee-yuck...they only looked good on Pernell Roberts.

Anyway, I'm finally going to come over to the "let's skip the white/cream/ecru hose" side. I just never liked white socks...sorry. There are enough shades of grey and tan and such that there ought to be a substiute for these glowing white kilt hose. They just call too much attention to themselves to be complimentary to an outfit.

    Best
