We do have more "dry" weather here than most places. It is nice to be able to go for a hike in Feb. and not turn into a human icicle because of the humidity. When we go back "East" to Chicago to visit the family we are hit hard by the humidity and our noses are running for the time we are there.
I recall earlier this summer when we were hiking out near the Maroon Bells and ran across a guy who was kilted and I asked how he liked hiking in the kilt, and he replied that this area was the best for kilted hiking anywhere. Maybe sometime soon I'll be able to experience that same feeling that he had that day.

I'm late in joining this thread, but I just wanted to chime in and confirm that the Ulster red tartan is readily available in a 13 oz weight, and I can do a four yard box pleated kilt for $350 (price assumes an average size).

This would be a light weight, comfortable kilt (but one that you can also dress up when the occasion calls for it).

I had Rocky at USA Kilts make me a semi-trad from the Marton Mills Crest collection in County Antrim.
    Here's a pic:

Give Rocky a call and discuss with him.
