I note that Willie's jacket is a bit long to pass today fashion police muster. Is the kilt a solid color or is the tartan hard to see in the photo. I do like his style.

William MacDuff is also featured in one of Kenneth MacLeay's famous paintings. You can see a small image of it on the STA site, here:http://www.tartansauthority-shop.com/acatalog/M29.JPG

Anyone know of a better online image?

Yes, his jacket would be considered too long for wear with a kilt by most standards. I note that in the other figures McLeay painted, their jackets are all cut short.

But a long jacket looks good on MacDuff. Are you going to tell him his coat's too long!? Didn't think so.... :-)

I think is is clothing not a uniform. There are too many members of the fashion police already. If he likes his coat to be longer than the bottom of his kilt that is HIS choice.

Chris thanks for posting these they are wonderful to look at, and they serve to remind me that if you are kilted with pride that is what is most important. No I would not make make any disparaging comments on Willie's wardrobe, I might just buy him a dram or two and listen.

There are a couple of other things I note, too - Douglas Gilmour is wearing boots and pulled up hose (gasp!); Prince Alfred is going "business casual" and wearing a long horse-hair sporran (egad!), which we see in Willie Duff's sitting photo serves a useful purpose; the schoolboys are not wearing any, anyway (they might as well be wearing skirts!); and not a ghillie brogue on anyone (the fakers!).

Anyway, great photos. Thanks for posting them.

 Regards,
 Rex.
