Three to six days a week, depending on how I feel. I do wear pants...I have on a pair of black jeans right now.
2) (If you wear it daily) What profession allows this sort of dress?
I wear by kilts to work two to 4 days a week. I work in IT support in a major University in a research setting.
3) How does your significant other feel about it?
At first, she hated them. We had a hard talk or two in which I told her that she did not have the right to dictate what I would wear and if she didn't like them she would kindly keep her mouth shut and stop the little "looks" and "comments". Since then she's come around. She's not wild about them, but she's accepting and sometimes I even get a compliment or two. She's very thoroughly ripped into the only two real jerks I've ever run into who had snotty things to say to my face about my kilts.
4) How do you respond to people who question your motives for wearing the kilt?
Usually politely, with a sense of humour. I wear them because of my Scottish grandparents, and because they're way better than shorts. Good friends who honestly ask will hear about how it's fun to get a bit more attention than if I was just walking around in blue jeans all the time.
(I have a very good, very old friend (a girl) who just could not believe that I wear a kilt in public. She gave me a really hard time about it over dinner with other friends. I was really surprised at her reaction. None of my guy friends have reacted that way.)
simple answer to that.....that's HER problem, not yours.
5) Do you think kilts are becoming more popular?
Yes, but I doubt they'll ever be mainstream.
6) Do you really want them to be more popluar?
tough question...yes and no. "More" popular, yes. The Fad of the Year? No. Outside of the Highland Games or Ren Faires or Nor Cal Beer and Kilts Night I might see a kilt, and it's always a Utilikilt...about once every three months. I never see another man wearing a tartan kilt "just around" except for when us Kilties at Stanford get together for coffee. If that were more like....Utilikilt or contemporary kilt, once a week and tartan kilt once a months, that'd be grreat.
(It seems I am seeing more and more people here in Austin wearing them out, but mostly they are Utilikilts.)
Thanks for your time.
