Help me spend 250 USD

I've finally been able to figure a budget for my first kilt. At this time I am only able to budget 250 US dollars. Since this is my first kilt, I have NO accessories for it. I'm looking for some options to get the most for my money.

There are a couple of things I'm currently looking at, but I would like to see what is suggested here.

A standard from Stillwater and accessories from there and perhaps USA Kilts would do you just fine for well under that budget.

There are TWO Fraser tartans available from USA Kilts (assuming that is your clan tartan). A semi-traditional kilt would be available for just under that amount. Their casual kilt would leave you plenty to spare for the accessories.

If you want the accessories AND the kilt. I would recommend getting the casual model from USAK (you're wanting a Fraser tartan right? That's your BEST option.) Depending on your waist size it'll cost you somewhere under $150 for the kilt. That leaves you some bucks to buy yourself a sporran, a pair of hose, and maybe a belt if you so desire. I see he's got that casual outfit package for under your budget. If your package allowed enough room under your budget you might could talk to Rocky about upgrading to a thicker belt and/or a pair of colored hose instead of the off white pair. I would encourage you to call him if you want to go this route. He'll work with you.

You're right. I went straight to the semi-trads first, since I assumed that the casual wouldn't come in the range of tartans it apparently does.

Let's not forget that the Amerikilt is available for about $100, and comes with its own sporran-style pouch. A Utilikilt should also be available in that price range, and needs NO accessories.

Here is my list for $250.00 USD

1. Stillwater Heavyweight, anywhere from $110.00-$150.00 depending on the tartan

2. Basic Sporran again from Stillwater $16.50-$17.95

3. Belt from Stillwater once more $22.50.

4. Hose W. Brewin and co. have quite a few colours and are affordable at $8.21-$10.27 depending on the choice of colour.

I hear ya. However, as you've probably seen, USAK will make either model from their list of tartans in PV.

I don't think kilt hose are so necessary. I mean, personally I wish I had like 10 pairs of them in different colors, but that's just me. He doesn't need to have them right off. Boots and shorter socks look good with a kilt.

A sporran is more necessary but a shirt/coat/jacket/sweater with pockets will also allow you to carry things. It is a pain though. Still a cheap sporran is often not that much of an improvement in carry capacity in my limited experience.

I guess I personally would want to get the best kilt I could for the money. It's cheaper to save up and add accessories over time than to upgrade to a new kilt. That's just me though and from what I've heard on the forum, I'm sure the cheaper options already mentioned in this thread will be great kilts. so the question for you Kent is this: are you looking to buy an outfit for 250? or a kilt?

Yes, this is what I had in mind in going right to the USAK semi-traditional.
