    A Better Way to Tie Your Brogues

    I've always been amazed that many are taught the wrong way to tie their shoes. I was. I noticed the other day that one of my Ghillie Brogues kept coming undone. I then realized that because it was on my left shin I was looping my first twist the wrong way.

    For right handed people go right under left and then right over left and you will have bows and laces that not only stay tied longer but also look better. If you use two identical motions to tie your shoes, you are making a granny knot that turns sideways and comes undone quickly.

    I found this little tutorial on the web. http://www.shoeknots.com/

    If I'm not in a kilt, I wear higher boots with long laces. I tie them like normal then double knot them and tuck them in. Old army habit I guess.

    However, my brogues, I tie differently now. Actually, I saw this video today;

    http://www.scotlandontv.tv/scotland_...Scotland%20FAQ

    Second video down, called "How do you tie..."

    I've always tied mine in the front, but tying them to the back and tucking them in is cool too.

    I used to double-tie my shoe laces to keep them from coming undone. After about 40 years, I figured out I was using a granny knot when I stumbled upon a web site describing the Ian Knot - a very fast way to tie a square knot with your shoe laces. It takes a few minutes to figure out how to do it, but Ian's method is the only way I tie shoe laces now.

    That is a cool site. Thanks for the link. I used to always hate taking my gloves off in below zero temps to retie my laces.
