Hello from the cold Canadian prairies
Hello folks, I've been lurking here for a few weeks and thought it was about time to introduce myself.
My name is Chris Shinn. I'm 43 years old and I'm from Winnipeg, Canada.
I became a Kilted newbie about 2 months ago when I purchased a black Original-style Utilikilt. I liked it so much I bought a brown Workman Utilikilt about a month ago (still breaking in the duck cloth). I'm probably going to continue with non-traditional kilts for a couple more before looking into something more traditional. My next kilt will be a Freedom Kilt Cargo model in one of the Camo fabrics, sometime in the new year.
Hopefully I will be able to drop in to Store Ashton's shop sometime next year as my wife and I will be visiting her family in Victoria, BC.
I first found out about the non-traditional Kilts 3 months ago. There was a story in the newspaper describing UK's and FK's. I read the article and said to myself "Myself, darn that's a great idea!". Some of my friends "get it" and some don't... whatever... 
Once I start looking at more traditional kilts I'll start with my families heritage, where I can where Malcolm, MacDougall, and of course Stuart (can't almost all Scots trace a part of their family tree to a line of Stuarts somewhere along the way?  ). And my wife is a Sinclair, so there's another Tartan to add to the collection.
Reading many of the posts here shows this to be a mature and articulate group and I look forward to being a part of this community.
