    'Safari' shirts?

Anyone else wear them? I love them with my kilt.

For those not sure what I'm talking about, they are basically super lightweight hotweather shirts designed to wick away moisture but provide coverage and protection. Usually they have some sort of mesh woven into a flap on the back to vent heat, and are often festooned with very useful pockets.

I've got three I wear all the time, either untucked and open over a tank top or T-shirt, or tucked in and about three buttons open.

I find the pockets extremely useful, and I love the light weight. It allows me to wear something in the summer without getting overheated. I think they look pretty good with the kilt too.

Sorry, no pic standing up at the moment, but here is one recently taken at Disneyland with the niece and nephew.

Ron, I think you'd like these shirts especially.

I love shirts like that. Especialy if they have button down epolettes and other features that are for the most part useless, but which MIGHT be usefull at some point. Most of my shirts are like that actualy, both long sleaved and short.

Sounds like the basic khaki shirt we wore in the Corps. What was your source? Do you know of a good source for hagrid sizes?

I often wear a safari-style shirt with my kilts. I got this one at Walmart.

In Idaho we call them fly fishing shirts - made of quick dry material with back and or side vents and plenty of pockets - we usually buy them with long sleeves so they even provide a level of sun protection. I think they look great with a kilt (see avatar).

So I'm not the only one.

James, check stores like REI, or even better REI online or Overstock.com and the like. Of the three I have, I only bought one full price. The other two were last seasons (like it matters) so I got one for $9.00 and the other for $13.00. Full price they usually go for around $45.00 and up.

What are other names for them? Neither overstock nor REI Online has any results for safari shirts…

I'd do a search for guide shirts, and/or fishing shirts. I'm a member of REI, but I think Cabela's has better prices. You might also check out Bass Pro Shops.

I have two different types that I bought from Cabela's. One style is called the Serengeti Safari Shirt. It is Cotton Canvas and is great for the cooler weather. The other is a Cabela's Guidewear Supplex shirt.

Now I'm going to have to make sure my shirts match the tartans I plan on getting.
