I'm right there with you. I've got a pair of cheap(er) kilts which can accommodate my unwanted mass, but all the others I want (especially the next 2 on the list, a USAK casual and UK workmen's) require a stable waistline.
And of course being single is also a good motivator for bringing back the six pack.
I won't tell you how to do it, I'll just say that for me, the key has always been keeping track of calories, and always making time for a daily workout. When I get insanely busy and these two simple tasks get disrupted, that's when the trouble starts.
It's all about sticking to a permanent plan. That or poverty, which has also worked for me in the past.

I'm personally starting to consider the Home Surgery Kit for myself...a good vacuum cleaner should work just as well as an expensive lyposuction surgery, right?!
