@Nick, maybe cavscout's sporran hangers solve your problem?

i really like how that leather vest Ron posted has the upper slash pockets and flap pockets below. I originally thought it wouldn't look right to have both types of pockets on the same vest, but it seems to work in this formation.

I'm guessing then, that the best bet would be to have FK make something totally original, combining all of the best ideas from these previous vests.

There seems to be a fair amount of interest in a casual kilt vest, but opinions about what kind of pockets such a vest should have differ from person to person. One solution is to offer a basic vest with different pocket options, which is the way Steve handles pockets on his kilts.

Inside pockets would be a secure place for items like a wallet, but the vest would need to be looser fitting to make room for the contents of the pockets.

Yes! That is just how I feel about sporrans. I like the look but I hate to use them.

I usually have a jacket or a vest to put stuff in. What I need is a lightweight, purely decorative sporran to wear.

i remember Steve at FK saying something about a "shirt wizard" much like his current "kilt wizard" eventually going up on his webpage.
Maybe we'll see a "vest wizard" too!

    Another vest option

My apologies for being late to this thread. I'm new to X-Marks and just getting caught up.

For those of you who sew, or know someone who does that owes you a favor, you might consider picking up the vest pattern from Buckaroo Bobbins and some nice fabric. The pattern has many options for pockets and collars. My dear wife tells me that a vest could go together in as little as a couple of hours if you know your way around a sewing machine.

I've never been a fan of pocket stuffing. I think the sporran is the one reason I'm usually kilted. I just like having my stuff in one place. I rarely have a wallet or anything else in my pockets when suited.

On the subject of cargo type vests, I'm not a fan. Unless I get a job with National Geographic I think I'll pass. I'm a folllower of the back pack crowd for carrying loads. It could also be that I live in a warm climate and vests aren't practical because of the need to stay cool.
