It is, but it's also my favorite light display as well.
My wife's reaction..."don't even think about it!!", as she sees me eyeing the two lighted deers in our shed.
I don't know, I got a big kick out of it and like the idea. However, I wouldn't want to be the parent who has to explain why Rudolph has been hung up that way.

Dave has a very valid point.
I take evening walks with my children during December to look at people's Christmas Light Displays. I am trying to imagine how my little girl who is not quite 5 years old would react to such a display. I can hear her questions and then see her tears in my mind's eye. What is funny to adults is not always so appropriate to little ones.

Sure, and it's a hard world we live in. I'm not sure I go along with coddling the little ones. Having been raised on a farm and ranch, I always knew where dinner sometimes came from, and it is healthy, I think. I routinely eat Bamby, Thumper, Elsie, Cleghorn, Rocky and Bulwinkle
I am also not a fan of the "Political Correct" movement for this same reason. Changing the name of the garbage collector to Sanitation Engineer doesn't make his job of collecting other people's garbage any easier!
Just because it would be difficult on the parent to tell the fact to a little one, doesn’t mean that the parent should shirk his or her duties. Does belief in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny really make a child’s life easier?
Shouldn’t we remember the real reason for Easter and Christmas?

Mod Hat Off
James,
My daughter is well aware that people hunt. I use deer antlers in several different woodworking projects and we have discussed this. I have told her that people hunt to keep the deer populations in check and that the hunters use the meat and other parts so that the animal's life is not wasted.
There is one heck of a big difference between that and having to explain to a small little girl why a lighted gutted Rudolph hanging up as a joke is funny.
I, as adult can see the black humor there . I don't think it is very amusing to a little girl who carries around her Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer stuffed animal about with her and sings the songs from the old Ranklin Bass special.
I think it would be upsetting. If someone did this in their front lawn I think that the majority of the 8 or so preschoolers on our street would find it equally disturbing.
Gutting deer, gutting fish, putting down a sick pet, cleaning the toliet, and a host of other of Life's messy realities shouldn't be glossed over. But they don't have to be focused on.
Children grow up fast enough without having to delibrately try to strip away childhood notions of the wonder of the season.
I would find such a display, if done publicy, in very poor taste.
Respectfully
Jamie

I liked your post somewhere else where you said you weren't opinionated....
I thought it was funny enough to email to hunters at work.
I think it's twisted enough that it would spoil Christmas for little ones.
The role of a warrior is to protect children not hunters, easy call, don't do it.
Besides, on Christmas Eve, at midnight, when the animals get to talk, I'd like them to think happier thoughts about me.
A couple of years ago I got an email with this video. It just blew my mindm, there are now many different vids with the same concept and music, but for me this is it. Feel sorry for the neighbours though.
The music is Wizards In Winter by The Trans-siberian Orchestra. I'd recommend their cd's for a change from the normal Christmas fare.
