I think if I plan to get another Buzz Kidder next year, I might go for one of these. More options.

Interesting. I like some of their ideas. I just wish the sporran was optional as well, since I'd rather have the pockets and save $10-20 on something I'd never use.
It seems like every 2 weeks (give or take) I find out about another contemporary kilt maker I'd never heard of, or a company making their own non-traditional style of kilt. It'd be nice if we had a stickied topic with a list of all known contemporary and non-traditional kiltmakers. Just a thought.

You just never know if these new makers are going to be around long. I know I wouldn't buy a kilt unless I've read a bunch of reviews on this forum, so maybe it would be a good sub thread

Actually it would be nice if we kept a list of all known kilt makers period. The only way it would work though is if someone took on the project so that it stayed up to date, "Keeper of the Official Kiltmaker List" or some such title. This way we would have a way of combing out the ones who are no longer in business. Might be something for the moderators to talk about.

Once upon a time there was such a thing here, but I think it disappeared when there started being sponsors of the site.

Is this the one you were thinking of, Adam? If so its still there, just somewhat outdated.
Best regards,
Jake

Gotta love the quote on their website:
"KILT W/ MATCHING SPORRAN $130.00 BASE PRICE
DETACHABLE POCKETS $ 30.00 EACH
ONE INCH PLEATS $ 40.00 MORE
FREAKIN OUT THE BOSS
AT THE XMAS PARTY PRICELESS"
CLEVER!

No there used to be a feature where you could locate kilt makers/sellers by state.

I can't see where a list would be a problem for the sponsors. It would be easy to make sure the sponsors were noted and their listing could include extra info as well. The big thing is it needs the OK of the mods and someone to tackle the project. I would be interested in doing it, but not until after the new year. Catering is too busy this time of year.

Really all you would need is a stickied post with a list, which could be edited to add or subtract when the need arises.
The reason I specifically mentioned contemporary kilts is because it's a relatively new phenomenon, and their are a lot of businesses popping up to take advantage of the new market.
But yes, having a list of all of them would be good.
Honestly I don't think it would take much effort. it's not like it would change on a daily basis.
And I don't think it would be a problem for sponsors either, as having a name on a list is in no way comparable to having ads on every page, and possibly more detailed information on the list.
