Chile Tartan?

i've been looking around and ive found other south american tartans but not chile's. I know that chile has a lot of scottish people in there and i have to know if their is a chilean tartan or not? BTW, im half chilean.

If there isn't a specific Chilean Tartan, I'm sure that one of our resident historians can tell you what historic Scot had a role in Chile's history and that that tartan might be considered appropriate...there always seems to be some kind of a Scottish Connection.

AA is correct; there is no Chilean tartan, but I would strongly advise anyone from Chile wanting to wear a tartan to choose the Cochrane tartan, in honour of Admiral Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald, who commanded the Chilean, Brazilian and Greek navies:

He is also the inspiration for authors Patrick O'Brien and C.S. Forrester.

There are a number of books available about Cochrane; he was a man ahead of his time, and the biography from the Royal Navy's web site is a "ripping yarn" in itself.

See my post above, Nick; I think wearing the Cochrane tartan in honour of the Scot who helped Chile secure her independence is very appropriate.

That being said, Argentina has a tartan, so you could always approach one of the pipe bands or a St. Andrew's Society in Chile and see if they would be interested. There used to be a society in Valpo not too long ago.
