The Aberdonians will say that about Aberdeen and the Dundonians about Dundee
Seriously though Glasgow does have a lot going for it from photos I have seen and as I said it is some time since I was last there. But Edinburgh surely has topographical advantages of varying heights and the contrasts between old and new towns whereas Glasgow is flatter and its most famous architecture more Victorian.
Of course you will never convince a Glaswegian about that!
I bought a Scottish jokes book when I was in Dumfries and it has a section devoted to Edinburgh and Glasgow jokes.
Here is a sample:
Q - What's the difference between Edinburgh and Glasgow?
A - In Edinburgh, breeding is very important - in Glasgow it's fun!![]()
And another:
A visitor to Edinburgh was walking down Princes St when a fierce dog appeared and attacked a small boy. Disregarding his own safety, the man grabbed the dog and throttled it to death.
A reporter from an Edinburgh paper arrived on the scene and shook ther hero by the hand. He informed him that the headline would read "Brave Local Hero Saves Child BY Killing Vicious Beast."
"But I'm not from Edinburgh..." the man protested.
"OK then how about "Kind Stranger in Edinburgh Saves Child By Killing Vicious Dog?"
"But I'm not that much of a stranger to Edinburgh - I'm from Glasgow."
That night the headline read "Glaswegian Slays Family Pet!"![]()
