PV versus Wool

Thank you so much for all your replys. There's so much to consider between the two. But basically it looks as if the monetary issue would be the deciding factor. So now it comes down to do I order the kilt, or do I order the material and have a local kilt maker have it? Anyway, thanks again for your replys.

Frugal Corner does NOT use PV (at least the high quality PV that we and Canadian casual kilts use). The kilts are made in Pakistan from Pakistani materials like Acrylic and "wool blends" (not a put down on Pakistan, just stating facts)... just like Stillwater Kilts. Our kilts are made in the US of UK materials (PV from MM).

PLEASE do not just PV based on a Frugal Corner kilt. If you'd like a swatch of PV, send me a SASE and I'll send you one so that you can tell the difference. Include a note of what tartan you'd like to see from our website.

As suggested by BozemanboB, it's important to consider how you're going to use your kilt.
I like my Stillwater "Nightstalker" for dancing as it is much cooler than my 13oz. wool {Ancient Hunting Matheson}, but I sure noticed the difference when I wore it on Friday evening. Even here in Vancouver, it was a might chilly at 0 degrees Celsius. The wool always looks crisper {as demonstrated by Riverkilt's photos} and lays flatter at the back between the waist and the top of the pleating.
I haven't worn my Amerikilt enough to make a judgement, but while it hangs well, it picks up wrinkles as fast as cat hair! Still eagerly awaiting my poly/cotton CCK from MacHummel, but I suspect it will be a favourite both for dancing and daily wear.

Hi String,PV is kind of like Rayon. I don't have the correct spelling handy, but it stands for polyviscus or how ever you spell it. Hope that helps.

In general, what is called Rayon in the U.S. is called Viscose in the U.K. So the U.S. term would sorta be Polyesther and Rayon...which sounds kinda weird. But despite the name confusion it is a great cloth. I'm well sold on it, owning 18 Polyviscose kilts now...all the fabric is from Marton Mills. Have some fun checking out their tartan selections.

I need to get me one of those PV USAK semitrads one of these days, but I want the black and the green SWK shadow tartans first. Thanks for explaining the poly viscose better Ron. Guess there's always a list when it comes to kilts.

I think there is still some confusion out there for some people about PV and who sells it. Stillwater kilts, and FC are not PV they are arylic. Sportkilts is also not the same PV as we have seen from Rocky and MacHummell. Just a clarification, as I have seen many references over the years to this vendor or that vendor selling PV, when really it is completely different.
