Toiletries, handiwipes, toilet paper, small cans of fruit, small packets of drink mixes, just about any cleaning product, batteries (if you can get away with it), hot sauce, small containers of seasonings, small microwavable meals, plastic knives, forks and spoons, pens, note pads, glass cleaning wipes, cigars, candles, envelopes, hand cleaner, DVDs, CDs, books, magazines, pre-paid calling cards, plastic containers, socks, sweatshirts, cleaning rags, fabreze spray cleaner, and the list goes on. Hope this is helpful. The small cans of fruit are great to stuff in rucks or pockets for quick pick me ups when on patrol and small drink mix packets are great for the same reason to put in the water bottles while on patrol. Thanks for all your support, it meant a lot for me and i know it means a lot to the guys and gals.

You are very welcome. As an immigrant myself from Austria (where my parents fled to from Yugoslavia right after the war - yeah, i am an old guy) it was my honor and pleasure to serve this great country. BTW, i am Scottish by insertion - my wife is Scotch-Irish, therefore my fascination with things celtic.

I might include a few cans of that and I'd encourage others to do the same since the Army will not issue it to the troops (for whatever reason).
That's absolutely amazing. I had never heard of that, but it makes perfect sense.

Having worked for the Army for over 21 years now, I can say that the military will get the troops whatever they need, but that sometimes it is a pain getting something through the beauracracy. Somewhere in the chain, there is probably someone who isn't willing to take the responsibility of ordering silly string, probably because they don't know what it's used for.

The people trying to order it just need to be more creative in their description. Instead of saying 'silly string', they need to describe the product as aerosol propelled, etc. Then the acquisitions people will go through the available contractors and find that the makers of silly string are the only ones who can fulfill the specifications and it will be ordered. You have to think like a government worker.

Ah, lovely Mosul. Only visited for a couple of days checking up on some of our Soldiers. Glad you're short and soon to be home. Sounds like justification for a new kilt to me.
