Perhaps. I've done a timy bit of weaving and that was fun. In fact, I have taken the palm fronds from my trees and used them in basquet weaving. I'll have to read up on knitting.

I am enrolled in a class at Mike's however my wife read the wizards comment and I am forbidden to knit in public at the pain of being nutted with a weedeater (she is jelous of her man)

I learned to knit over a year ago so I could make my own kilt hose. It isn't that hard and I learned from a kit I bought. After mastering the basics, I moved on to learning to knit socks. Now I have a couple of decent patterns for kilt hose and I am trying to find a yarn that comes in just the right colors to coordinate with the Gunn Ancient tartan.
I highly recommend going to your local yarn store and make friends. The ladies at my LYS have been very helpful whenever I have had questions.
