Very interesting! I have become a dedicated bowtie wearer - yes, the type you tie yourself, and no, there should never be too much symmetry! I wonder if there is a correlation between the kilted and the bowtied!

With a beard like mine - Bow ties are great - as I don't have to worry if I wear one or not - because no one can see.

Bow ties and kilts go together if you ask me. By the way a federal judge taught me how to tie bow ties. I have a closet full ot them which I am thinning out for my growing kilt collection.
The picture below is with Paul X608 on St. Andrews Day. (Egads, his bow tie matches his flashes!)
