Question for Native Scots (pronunciation)

One of my Ancestors came from Eassie (now called Eassie and Nevay) in the county of Angus.
Could someone help me out with a phonetic pronouciation of "Eassie"?
It's written as ISSY in one of the old records and I know that sometimes back then things were written as the sounded, but I'm not sure.

That's my understanding too. I passed through Eassie on the last train from Forfar in 1982. There were a lot of locals from that area taking their final trip on the line and as I recall that was how the locals pronounced Eassie.

My surname is Eassie and getting people to spell/pronounce it correctly has been a lifelong struggle !

In a sense there is no "correct" version but we have always pronounced the name as Essy. Since taking an interest in genealogy I have found families in Canada and Australia who also use this pronouciation. Others in Australia and Ireland now call themselves Eassy with a long e.

So my vote is for Essy.
