Go Navy - Beat Army!
As great as it sounds for this new kilt, I cannot bring myself to be seen in an army tartan...After serving 6 years in the world's greatest Navy, it would just be insulting for me to do so. But, I do notice Rocky's Navy tartan...hmmm...

I recently ordered the US Army tartan from Rocky. The kilt will be perfect this May when I have the honor of attending my SO's father's 65 year reunion at West Point. He's a Jan 1943 graduate, landed at Omaha beach about a week after the landing , and served in the Infantry throughout the rest of the war.
Do you think my Crossed Pistol MP insignia from service in the
1970's will be appropriate?

What I am doing is taking a "lapel size" military police badge and afixing to a claymore pin for my Army tartan kilt.
Please feel free to use the idea.

You actually might be able to sell or make money off that idea. I have yet to see a MI branch insignia kilt pin. I'd buy that if someone had one.

Since this is a family forum, I won't dredge up the rivalry. The score was embarrasing enough. But we'll get you next year. Like Kieffer Sutherland said in A Few Good Men, 'I don't hate the Navy. They give us a ride to war'
Besides, my father is a Seabees vet from Vietnam.

Since the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1 is the Proponent Agency we just need to send a wave of recommendations and requests for exception to try and get it added/approved as a variant for formal dress. I wonder how well that would go over. Might end up having my MACOM Sergeant Major come over and having a talk with me. It's worth a shot though.

I made this using one of SWK's economy kilt pins, and a MP shield I found on E-bay.
All that and a bit of JB weld and this is what you get.
The two items cost less than $5.00. The e-bay shipping was three times that.
Total Time: 4 minutes... Took me longer to find a place for this to dry/set up than do the project.

I can hardly wait to get my US Army kilt from USAK and will wear it with pride. But as an ex-artilleryman I'm sad there's not a bit of red in the tartan....

Actually contacted the uniform proponent at G-1 and was told by SGM Katrina Easley herself that the kilt was not an official uniform, even though there is a DA PAM allowing the bands to wear it.
She stated that the Commander couldn't even allow this one.
Just have to go to those balls in appropriate civilian attire for now.
