In order to get the blood roiling enough to make you want to pick a fight with and Englishman then have a pint after, you really should listen to or better yet watch Albannach. They're a "tribal" group out of Scotland that usually make the Highland Games tours during the summer. Their latest album Eye of the Storm I thought was their best yet. They have a version of The Gael that just makes you want to knock someone out. I use it when I'm working out.

Loch Lomond gets pretty good too. But the Gael makes me want to raise hell. Our version covers the gamut of emotions. I'll try to repost our live version on myspace.com/thatcelticband sometime today if anyone would like to hear it.

Albannach was at the games in Estes Park, CO, this year and yes they do get you moving. The age range of fans was amazing to me, kids in the single digits all the way up to 70's plus. And everyone was moved by their music.
BTW, thanks for the youtube link.

"Amazing Grace" and "Scotland the Brave" are wonderful, and I like them only on the pipes, but I have to say for me, "Coming Home" has always been a favorite.

I get shivers listening to "Flower Of The Forest" & "Scottish Soldier" has almost the same effect. As far as stirring the blood goes, either "Cock Of The North" or "The Gey Gordons".

Ahhh, yes! Danny Boy, as many of us know it, is beautiful and sure to bring a tear to many an eye! I love this one and have been practicing it, but wasn't brave enough to insert it into the Highland music question...since you were far more brave than I, I will second it!!

Since you bring up Danny Boy.... A year and a half ago, my Brother-in-Law called to let me know that my Mother-in-Law probably wouldn't make it thru the weekend. We rushed around and got in the car to had back to Iowa with a stop over night, he had told us that nothing was happening and to stop. the next morning we were listening to Seamus Kennedy on a CD when he called to let us know she was gone. Looking back at the CD, it was while Seamus was signing Danny Boy. Most appropriate since she was very proud of her Irish heritage. That song now brings a slight tear to our eyes and a smile when we play it.

There have been a lot of my favorites posted here but I still go back to Amazing Grace as a song that gets me the most. It ahs been played at many a funeral for family and also on the field at festivals. To hear the lone piper is bad enough but the anticipation and then the entrance of a full arrangement of pipes and drums takes it over the top.
There are a lot of songs that do it but I would have to say this one is tops for me.

I'mgoing to join the Amazing Grace contingent; it came up in the ipod yesterday and it never fails to create a lump in my throat.
