civil servents ruined my day
It’s rained every day since I got the new car, OK, not new, but new to me, 70 coupe. So with the exception of a short drive last Thursday late when it arrived, I haven’t driven my Christmas present. Temps today in the low 40’s, nice sunshine, and UPS delivered my title with lien holder’s release! So I call the clerks office, yep, just bring proof of insurance, title and my checkbook. So I left the office at noon, grabbed a sandwich and headed into town.
Sorry, you need to see the sheriff’s office for an inspection. Two blocks west and I’m in the office. Sorry, you’ll have to go home and call us; we’ll send an officer by. But they are right across the hall, says I. Sorry, you’ll have to go home and call. So, on the way home I call, I would like to get an antique inspected. Ok, he’s on the way; it’s now 1:15. Second call, new dispatcher, what is your phone number? Don’t see you on the log, I’ll send someone; it’s now 2:15. Call office; cancel appointments for rest of day, more determined than ever to have a nice drive. Third call, oh yeah, he’ll be right there, its 3:30. Clerk’s office closes at 4; junior birdman shows up at 4:30.
That must be it, nice. Give me the form they gave you in the office. He’s armed or I might have hit him. Senses tension, finds form in trunk of cruiser. Now he can’t find the VIN tag, has both doors open, finally asks you have the title? I pick it up off the seat in front of him and hand it over. Got a license? He records VIN & my license number. That will be $15.
Tomorrow I’ll go get tags and hopefully I can get out before it rains again. I'm bound and determined to see if it's easier entering & exiting a vette than it is in my 4x4.

Congrats on the new (old) 'Vette. We have similar crap here. Any used vehicle needs a safety check, emmisions check (can you say tax grab?) and a package from the government. End of the day it's over a hundred bucks, then tax on purchace (hello used item, tax has already been paid) licence plates and sticker. If it wasn't such a pain I buy a new car everytime the ashtray is full.

I knew someone in high school who would always say, "Yeah, I got a 'Vette.... A Chevette."

Welcome to the world of Corvette ownership. Congrats on the Vette, you will enjoy it.
Be sure and wave at the other Vettes as you fly by them.

In Kentucky, it seems like it's the sworn duty of every county clerk worker to find ways to make you make multiple trips over recent car purchases...
The folks at the Sheriff's office seem to be in on it in Fayette County, from what you tell me.
Lovin' the breeze 'tween m'knees!
