I chose Watson for the Wood side of my family (16oz handsewn) and Weathered MacKenzie for my mother's side (13oz machine sewn). I also chose these as they were both pretty rare tartans at the time and I really liked both.

I was given a Gunn Modern, then Last year was given a Graham of Menteith again the modern colours, the first Tank I bought myself was the Isle of Skye

My first tank had to be MacGregor modern. I chose this one for my maternal grandmother. It is 16 oz. Locharron, made by Rob McDonald at West Coast Kilts. As I began kilting somewhat late in life, I wear this kilt often to ensure I get the most enjoyment. Dressed up or dressed down, get your tank out and enjoy it.

My first tank was my first kilt. Ten years ago, my aunt left me $1,000 in her will which I used to get a Malcolm tartan kilt from Scotland and the necessary accessories through the good folks at Pipers Cove in Kearny, NJ.

My first tank was in modern hunting Rose due to my clan affiliation.

My first tank was a Kathy Lare hand sewn in Brown modern. The reasoning for the tartan is My mother is a Brown.
Next up will be a Strachan for my father's side. Kilt maker yet to be determined, but I have been exchanging e-mails with Barb Tweaksbury.

My first was an Ancient Campbell that was on sale at Anderson's in Dumfries. The measurements listed on the tag were dead on for me and it was too good to pass up. The first made for me was a Modern MacCallum sewn by the talented Barb Tewksbury.

Lamont modern for me. It's actually my wife's tartan and the only reason I got it was because, until 6 months ago, I didn't realize I had any Scottish ancestry. Now I'm waiting on my Perthshire District which the great Matt Newsome is making for me.

My first 'tank' was Macdonald Lord of the Isles by Kathy Lare. Don't recall how I first found her, probably on this board. She was easy to work with and VERY helpful in finding the tartan I wanted. Since the combination of quality and geography is hard to beat I've stayed with her as my hand sewn kilt appreciation/addiction has blossomed.

I chose Macdonald Lord of the Isles since I'd had a lovely necktie in that tartan for many years and my grandfather Murdoch had long instilled in me that this was the tartan of the Island Scots.

The eight tartans I've chosen for hand sewn tanks by Kathy have been due to family (Macdonald Lord of the Isles, Macdonald of Kingsburgh, Cameron Black and Red, and Scott modern), or military (Royal Air Force and Leatherneck), or District (Isle of Skye, and X Marks...we're a district of some sort right??).

The tartans on my hand sewn wish list now are mostly district...Arizona, British Columbia, Hudson Bay, Maple leaf. But these are district that relate to myself or my family.
