Checkered Kilt Hose Etiquette?
In my best Seinfeld impression, "What's the deal with checkered kilt hose?"
I was just at my local kilt shop, getting the SWK Lamont altered at the waist, when I saw that they had a pair of red/black diced kilt hose for sale. One pair, in my size, regular $230 on for $35!!!!!! I couldn't resist. So now, my question is, what's the etiquette for wearing 'em? What were they originally worn with, for what purpose? Are they military? Were they formal? Do they have to match a kilt?
Signed,
Your friend kilted in the cold,
Keith.

Diced hose come from the military, however they do well for formal events, I have to ask where did you find them.

Keith, they will never match your kilt (I was going to say "no matter what the tartan", but someone will probably find a tartan they'll match). I think they will go very well with your Lamont. Congratulations on such a good buy!

What a find.
They originated with the military, are often worn at formal events, rarely match the kilt and by convention don't have to at all, and are not usually worn with spats. It is the diced tops that are more often worn with spats.
