A very observant 4 year old

This is an interesting little story (or shameless bragging about my second cousin- you decide).

My cousin is in town for Christmas with his little 4 year old Crystol. This little girl is cute as a button! Big squishy cheeks, sweet as can be, and obviously as I learned this morning, very bright an observant. Most kids who don't know what a kilt is will ask me why I'm wearing a skirt. Needless to say, when a child asks, I take the time to explain what it is and why I wear it. Crystol had never seen me in a kilt before, so this morning when I was fixing breakfast, she came into the kitchen and asked "Travis, why are you wearing a blanket?" It's amazing to me! She was able to see right to what the kilt is at it's most fundamental level, with none of the prejudices or biases that most kids have. I told her what it was (of course) and she's been talking about it all day! She loves it! I bet she marries a kiltie when she grows up.

OK- I'm done bragging... er, sharing.

If only some so called adults could just see through kid's eyes we'd all be happy.

    DALE.

You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

That is great, I wonder what she'd have said if you were wearing a great kilt

The world would be a better place if more of us would see with children's eyes, that's for sure.

Bragging on good kids is a fine thing to do.

The real observation should be - What a peaceful world we would have if we did not pass on our prejudices to our children! I find more wee ones appreciate the kilt without being told.

As someone who deals with actual children on a regular basis, I have to respectfully disagree. Children are wild animals, and raising them is the process of taming those animals to behave in a civilized fashion.

But it sounds like the girl in question is already a long way towards civilization.

I would agree with you Mr. MacDougall. I have been Paroled out of the School District of Kansas City, Missouri after serving 16.5 years. I can only hope that maybe I was able to turn around one student, but I degress, wonderful story.

Aww! What a wonderful (second cousin once removed, I think) you have! Quite sharp.

I can't wait till I have kids! Of course, I have to get married first, etc. But still, something to look forward to (note: cynics, please don't burst my bubble! I'm far too cynical as it is, and I need something to look forward to…).
