That's funny! and something very similar happened to me yesterday with our friends' son.

We have a babysitting co-op (a very small one; it's just my wife and I and the other couple). Anyway, yesterday was our day for the month, so we had Adam (3) and Paul (7) over to play with our boys (1.5 and 5) in the morning. I spent most of the time with Adam (3) in the kitchen, baking and decorating Christmas cookies. However, I was still in my bifurcated PJs throughout the morning, but as it got on toward noon and the event we planned to attend in the afternoon with both families, my wife took over for me in the kitchen with Adam, and I went to shower and change.

When I came back down kilted, Adam, standing on my right side, looked at my kilt and asked, "Why are you wearing that?"

I responded that I had been wearing my pajamas before, and I was dressed and ready to go out with his mom and dad after we all had lunch.

He said, "No, why are you wearing a rug?" and he pointed to the fringe of the selvedge on the kilt.

I basically fed him the next line when I answered "It's really a kilt," and he came back with, "Well, it looks like a rug."
