When I first saw the "Ben Dubh" (The Black Moun) Tartan I was totally blown away. The pattern was truly one color with the pattern only being visible as a subtle shade difference under different light angles.
I have make ten or eleven kilts from the 13oz fabric from Marton Mills and it is one of my favorites.

The solid green I have is one of my favorites.
As Jamie says, the green shadow tartan is stunning, while the black is pretty subtle. here is a snapshot of a necktie in the saffron (on the left) which shows the weave fairly well.

Here's the black SWK. Jamie has posted some pix of the green.

Welcome from Fl
I have a Tank in the Black version from the Highland shop and love it, looks solid black from the front but at an angle you can see the pattern.

Jerry at Stillwater does carry the Shadow Tartan in green, black and Safron. However, according to my conversation with him, he's had trouble getting the fabric of late and so sizes are limited to what he has in stock...
Seems Jerry has refreshed his Shadow Tartan stock! I've been waiting for the solid green woolie to become available in my size, and now it is! I just now bought one. Woo hoo!! I'm sure it's already shipped!

I really like the Shadow Tartans... I find nothing wrong in keeping with a kilt made exactly the same as others, yet with tartan which is a bit modernized.
Very cool stuff!

Anyone know if anyone makes the black shadow fabric/kilt in something other then wool? My husband is allergic to wool, but that tartan is perfect for him. . . the whole dark and mysterious thing.
